WA’s forward thinkers recognised at Entrepreneur and Innovator Awards

He might educate others about their finances, but Perth businessman Tim Guest has received a scholarship of his own after taking a top prize at the WAtoday Entrepreneur and Innovator Awards.

Mr Guest, the managing director of Infinite Wealth, was named entrepreneur of the year and received a fully-funded scholarship to a business development program at Curtin Business School. His company runs seminars and training sessions attended by thousands of people each year.

Fourth generation miner Natasha Cann added to her list of business achievements scooping the runner-up prize in the category for her no-cost mentoring services for women in the mining industry. The young entrepreneur of the year also hailed from the mining industry, with Zane Jones’ hire service Jones Mining Innovation deemed to be the standout among the nominees aged under 35.

SquareAlpha managing director Ben Song was not on hand to accept the runner-up award, but thanked the judges “for honouring the entrepreneurship that will drive our great state into the future”. Two local health-focused businessmen were joint runners-up in the innovator of the year category – Marcus Tan of HealthEngine and Ryan Wynch of Occulert.

The former was responsible for establishing “Australia’s largest health directory”, while Occulert developed a tool to track and measure the “hydration status” of employees. The overall innovator of the year was Clinton House from software and technology company the Inhouse Group.

Established West Australian photographer Paul Pichugin received the People’s Choice Award, for his striking work creating 360-degree virtual tours for the resources and tourism industry. The third annual WAtoday Entrepreneur and Innovator Awards, held at the Novotel Perth Langley, were presented by Networking WA and sponsored by Curtin University, the City of Perth and Wrays.
